The aim of the course is to present some of the greatest political speeches of the 20th and 21st centuries. The course provides the opportunity for students to study and examine with scrutiny a selection of political speeches with special attention to rhetorical devices, such as loaded words and phrases, the use of symbols, slogans, abstraction, generalizations, metaphors, analogies, illustrations, non-verbal manipulation. The course sets out to help students analyse political rhetoric and explore the techniques frequently used in delivering modern political speeches.
